Balimbium Sketches

Balimbiums are gas giant dwellers who have hitchhicked on other alien's ships to spread themselves across the universe. They are sentient and highly curious creatures whose main trade is the art of speech and song. Their diet consists of nuts, rocks, and berries that grow on floating islands and dense clusters of dust and gas formations in their atmosphere. Balimbiums spend nearly their entire life in the air having a complex system of gas sacks, bladders, pipes, and chambers in their bodies. The gas sacks are very delicate and once removed cannot grow back. As such Balimbiums take great care to avoid people or objects that might do them harm.

Balimbium society consists of a small pack of ten or more subjects with the elders in charge. Adults gather food and take care of the pups while teens often will leave the pack and search for a new pack for the possibly of a mate. Mating is usually for life and litters are usually three or more. The pups are born only with one gas sack and the babies take a while to learn how to properly pup air in and out of their sacks to float properly. Too little gas and a baby will fall to its doom and too much will cause the sack to explode. Very few babies survive their sack exploding and are at a great disadvantage in life due to the wasted learning time and the handicap of missing one sack for the rest of their lives.

Balimbiums have a religion and believe strongly in a higher power. They believe in spirits that control the whether and a great God of light. Not suprising since their world is usually so cloudy and full of storms that any sun is seen as a great relief and a sign for plentiful times ahead. Ever since the contact with other, more advanced alienrace the Balimbiums have added to their religion and set of beliefs. Thinking that the higher technology alien race are speakers for the stars Balimbiums willing take abuse that they wouldn't from other creatures. Despite the abuse Balimbiums have successfully formed a coexistence relationship with the other alien race, against all odds.
